This year the American Australian Association wine tasting dinner was held at Le Cirque and I was fortunate enough to be invited onto one of the corporate tables.
This year’s theme was Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. I’ve not drunk Pinot Noir for a while, so this was a great opportunity to sample some good quality Australian and New Zealand wines.
Wine sampling was followed by a delicious three-course meal created by Australian Chef Craig Hopson, formerly of One If by Land and Picholine. We started off with a delicious mushroom risotto – there would be a picture but I was so hungry I inhaled the risotto before it occurred to me to take a picture.
This was followed by duck breast with chocolate and peppercorn sauce and apricot sauce. I haven’t had duck for so long and this was cooked to perfection.
This was followed by a lovely dessert of poached pear in red wine, hazelnut ice-cream on a gingerbread disc. This almost got devoured before I managed to take a picture, but fortunately managed to restrain myself just long enough.
